Carl Bildt is Swedish Foreign minister. His capacity – intellectually and workwise is impressive. The guy actually maintains his own blog (in Swedish). Informing and commenting on his work and international ongoings regularly – sometimes several times a day. He’s had 1.6 million hits since early January.
The effect of this is quite astounding. He brings the thoughts of high level politics to the public. He creates his own channel to (and against) Swedish media (who tend to hate his guts). He has brought the unique Swedish tradition of transparency in public office to the next level – volontarily, and also to the internet age. Maybe not surprising he also inaugurated Sweden’s virtual embassy in Second Life.
How about this as a standard for the stuffy people in Brussels…?
